‘Cave Songs’ was entirely written on an Iphone app called Thumbjam while travelling on trains, planes and trams. Each song took about 30 minutes from the start of the first notes until the finished mixed track that you hear.
Heidi Elva would start off with a beat perhaps copying something overheard on the spill of someone’s headphones or a new beat she was loving, then she would layer electronic based instruments and use the headphones as her vocal mic.
Adding in layers of the sounds around her as is her signature style - the squeal of the train brakes, doors opening, announcements over the speakers.
Inspired by cave art, Indigenous cultures, sacredness and seeking.
